Beacon Helps Global Sign & Awning’s Growth

2016-07-15

Financing from Boston-based Beacon Capital is helping Clearwater, Florida-based Global Sign & Awning grow its business.

Beacon financed two boom trucks, one bucket, a sign boom, and financed the sale of a used boom truck for the full-service sign company, which was founded in 2007.

Global Sign had two boom trucks, but wanted to upgrade their equipment due to increased business. In early January 2015, the owner, Chris Wicks, applied to finance an 8-year-old sign boom truck with Beacon Funding and was quickly approved, but thought the approval would not work for him, according to a joint announcement from the companies.

After the owner shopped around for financing and negotiated terms over the next 60 days, the two sides came to an agreement and Beacon funded the acquisition of the truck. Wicks says Beacon earned his trust because the firm was up front with him about what it would take to get financing.

The following month, Wicks sold a bucket truck that he was replacing, recommending Beacon to his potential buyer for financing the non-dealer sale of that older bucket. Once that sale went through he financed his acquisition of another bucket truck for his business with Beacon, as well.

“We wouldn't have been able to do most of the jobs we do without the new equipment we financed, the sign boom truck,” Wicks says. “It's the Rolls Royce of the sign industry.”

Global Sign & Awning's business revenues have increased approximately 25 percent since they financed the sign boom truck in April 2015. Given that uptick in business, Wicks decided to apply for and received financing for a digger derrick truck with Beacon, which has allowed him to eliminate another subcontractor and has increased his profits even more.

As part of this success, Global Sign & Awning agreed to participate in Beacon Funding's “Success Spotlight” program, which was the reason behind the joint announcement.

Though headquartered in Boston, Beacon Funding has locations throughout the U.S. and Europe.
