Netflix's advertising agency, MEC, recently commissioned Toronto artists to hand-paint three graffiti murals around the city to promote The Get Down, a new musical drama series set in New York, N.Y., in the 1970s.
The murals, designed to be reminiscent of New York's Bronx neighbourhood in the‘70s, were painted on Cieslok Media's out-of-home (OOH) ad spaces at Church and Lombard Streets in Old Toronto, College and Clinton Streets in Little Italy and Peter and Adelaide Streets in the Entertainment District.
“Hand-painted murals are a unique form of OOH where the process of creating the ad is part of the experience the audience gets to enjoy,”says Jörg Cieslok, the OOH firm's president and CEO.“Netflix's unique campaign for The Get Down is perfect for this medium, fitting in well with the environment.”
