The Bell Centre, home to the National Hockey League's (NHL's) Montreal Canadiens, is using Navori Labs' QL Professional software to manage a mix of video, animation, graphics and data for a growing number of digital signage displays.
The most recent expansion of the arena's self-hosted digital signage network was finalized in time for the 2016-2017 NHL season, having scaled up from the initial deployment of the software to hundreds of screens with Windows- and Android-based media players. The network now supports content at up to ultra-high-definition (UHD) ‘4K’ resolution across concourse displays, menu boards, video walls, scoreboards and a massive liquid crystal display (LCD) at the venue's main entrance.
The software's multi-user interface allows the Bell Centre team to create and schedule content both inside the venue and from remote offices. By selecting the appropriate mix of media players, the content can be synchronized across many screens for important messages or targeted for specific displays.
Announcements flash on screens around concession stands, for example, whenever a goal is scored. Other content is similarly triggered on-demand for fans who have left their seats, while wayfinding information is displayed on a per-screen basis to help guide visitors throughout the venue. Advertising is also managed through the same software platform, with detailed playback reports generated and shared with ad agencies and brand owners to help them measure their return on investment (ROI).
The flexibility in media player hardware selection has helped the stadium manage costs during the expansion of the network. And while Navori is headquartered in Switzerland, local support is provided directly from its North American offices in Montreal.
