Real estate developer Daniels has invested in Watchfire Signs' outdoor digital signage technology to create an evolving public-art piece for its new HighPark Condominiums project in Toronto.
Public Studio, an artists' collective, entered Daniels' design competition with a pitch that involved displaying video content on a light-emitting diode (LED) screen. Watchfire helped prepare a presentation for the jury, which included advocates for more media-based public art installations in the city.
After winning the competition, Public Studio engineered a custom computer to run content to the sign, using three-dimensional (3-D) gaming software developed in collaboration with students of the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU).
