Several dozen attendees participated in the Colorado Sign Association's annual membership meeting recently. The event took place at BSC Signs in Broomfield, Colorado, just on the edge of the Denver metro area.
John Dobie, president/CEO of BSC Signs, is the current vice president of the Colorado Sign Association's board of directors. He says he was pleased by the turnout, and the growth that the CSA has been experiencing.
“It's grown from 23 (members) to 54 in the last two or three years,”Dobie says, adding that this meeting drew attendees from far away as Montrose, Colorado, and Casper, Wyoming, each of which are about 300 miles from Denver.
As part of the day's activities—which included a catered dinner and other refreshments—representatives from the city of Denver gave a presentation on some of the changes they are making to the sign permitting process.
One attendee mentioned that he liked the fact the meeting was held inside an actual sign shop, something that wasn't always the case. Dobie says he was more than glad to host it, even though his company undoubtedly competes for business with some of the other attendees.
“I believe that although we're competitors, we can generally help each other more than hinder each other,”Dobie says. For the industry as a whole,“a rising tide lifts all boats.”
Broomfield also happens to be home to National Business Media, parent company of Sign & Digital Graphics magazine, and several staffers from SDG also attended the meeting.
