The first exterior sign has been installed on Rogers Place, a major new hockey arena and concert venue scheduled to open this fall in Edmonton's Ice District, in time for the 2016/2017 National Hockey League (NHL) season.
The future home of the Edmonton Oilers began construction in early 2014, with naming rights going to Rogers as the venue's title sponsor and technology infrastructure provider. The company's contribution is part of its multi-year telecommunications sponsorship of the Oilers.
The new building replaces Rexall Place, which opened in 1974, and will serve as the‘anchor’of the Ice District, Canada's largest mixed-use sports and entertainment development. Rogers Place will offer a seating capacity of 18,641 for hockey games and 20,734 for concerts.
