Software developer Color Logic has donated its process metallic colour system to Ryerson University's School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) in Toronto, where it is running on a previously donated Roland DGA Soljet Pro 4 XR-640 inkjet printer/cutter.
Research assistant and third-year GCM student Carman Fan (pictured, left) has already used the software/hardware combination to output special-effect printing samples on vinyl with the assistance of fourth-year GCM students Margaux Kocsis (second from right) and Xiomara Bicalho (right).
The software, which requires only five inks to print a selection of 250 different metallic effects, will give students more options for designing labels, packaging and other projects. It is compatible with digital inkjet, offset, flexographic, gravure and screenprinting processes.
